Progressive Frame Tips

For progressive lenses to work best, the size of your frame and where your eyes sit inside it make all the difference.

• Lens Height: Choose frames at least 30mm tall so there is enough space for your distance, mid-range, and reading zones.

• Eye Position: Your eyes should sit slightly above the center of the lens.

  • Eyes too high: Makes it hard to reach your reading zone.

  • Eyes too low: Causes blurry distance vision because you look through the mid-range zone instead.

Progressive Lenses: What to Expect

Switching to progressive lenses takes a little time, but a few simple habits will help you get used to your new glasses quickly.

• Wear them consistently: Wear your new glasses as much as possible and avoid switching back to old pairs.

• Start fresh: Put them on first thing in the morning when your eyes are rested.

• Check the fit: Ensure your frames rest securely on the bridge of your nose. If they sit too high or low, your vision may look blurry.

• Give it time: Most people adjust within the first 1-2 weeks. Ending up with one pair of glasses for all your everyday tasks makes the adjustment period well worth it.

• Lead with Your Nose: Point your nose, not just your eyes, directly at whatever you want to see. This keeps your line of sight in the clearest part of the lens.

• Tilt Your Chin: Gently tilt your chin up or down to fine-tune your focus.

• Watch Your Step: Because the bottom zone is magnified for reading, tilt your chin down when going up or down stairs, ramps, or curbs so you look through the distance portion.

• Wear Them Consistently: Resist the urge to switch back to old glasses. Wearing your progressives all day speeds up how quickly your brain adjusts!

What does “viewing area” mean?

• The "viewing area" is the optical sweet spot on your lens for near, mid, or far vision. Progressive lenses naturally have slight side blur as a byproduct of how they're made. A wider viewing area pushes those blurry edges outward, giving you a broader, clearer field of view. Our SmoothSight progressive lenses have a ~75% wider viewing area (compared to Standard progressives), allowing for more natural eye movement and a shorter time adapting to new glasses.

What’s the difference between All Purpose and Work & Hobby progressives?

• All-Purpose lenses cover near, mid, and far vision correction. Work & Hobby lenses target close-up tasks that you might do while seated indoors and do not include distance vision. Most Zenni customers choose All Purpose progressives for maximum flexibility when switching between up-close, mid, and far distance vision tasks.

Which progressives can I wear while driving?

• You can wear any All Purpose Progressives (Standard, Premium, or SmoothSight) while driving, as they include distance vision. Work & Hobby progressives (Near-Range and Mid-Range) lack distance viewing and cannot be worn behind the wheel. 

Do progressive lenses provide 100% UV protection?

• Yes. Every lens includes 100% UV protection and an anti-scratch coating.

Can I customize the segment height for my progressive lenses?

• While we don't offer custom segment height measurements, we do have the perfect solution! Our SmoothSight™ Progressives feature a patented lens design for premium precision. This advanced lens technology automatically positions the vision zones at the ideal location for your eyes, giving you maximum clarity at every distance, with no manual measurements or fitting height required.

• If you opt for Standard or Premium Progressives, we calculate the segment height automatically using your frame style and lens height for a reliable fit. For extra flexibility with these options, we recommend frames with adjustable nose pads so you can easily fine-tune the fitting height and lens placement.
