Reusing old things and upcycling them into something new and useful paints the pages of blogs and social media these days. It’s hip, trendy, and more importantly eco-friendly. I want to share a quick and simple way to turn a plastic powdered drink container into a chic sunglass case holder in just a few minutes.
Materials:
• Drink Mix Container
• Fabric of Choice
• Scissors
• Mod Podge
• Foam Paint Brush
Step One: Cut your fabric to fit around your drink container. I chose printed burlap, but any fabric will do. Heavier fabrics, like upholstery fabrics, are easier to maneuver. Also consider reusing the material of an old shirt or pair of jeans.
Step Two: Cover the entire outside of the container with Mod Podge using a foam paint brush.
Step Three: Cover the inside of your fabric with Mod Podge as well.
Step Four: Cover the container with your fabric, keeping the fabric taught as you wrap it around. This can get a little messy so it helps if you keep a damp paper towel close at hand. If you are using burlap, saturate the ends to help prevent fraying.
Step Five: (Optional) Add another layer of Mod Podge on top of the fabric.
Allow your sunglasses holder to dry completely. After the Mod Podge is dry, you can cut any frayed material. When in doubt, you can always add another coat of Mod Podge on top.
