Single Vision: Computer

Whether you’re a professional coder, a creative artist, or someone who just loves shopping on the web (wink wink), staring at a screen for hours can be tough on your eyes, but a dedicated pair of prescription computer glasses can be a total game-changer. Think of these glasses as a desktop upgrade for your vision. They are specifically designed to help you see your digital world with clarity without having to squint, tilt your head, or lean forward.

Why Choose Single Vision Over All-Day Progressives?

You might be wondering, "Why not just use my everyday progressive lenses?" While progressives are amazing for multitasking throughout your day, single vision computer glasses offer a much more relaxed experience for dedicated screen time.

  • A Wider "View" of Your Work: Standard progressives have a small "intermediate" window in the middle of the lens. Single vision computer glasses use the entire lens for your screen, giving you a much wider field of view without any blurry edges.

  • Better Posture, Better Comfort: With all-day progressives, you often have to tilt your head back to find that small sweet spot for the computer. Because computer glasses are corrected across the whole lens, you can keep your head in a natural, neutral position. Your neck and shoulders will thank you!

Understanding Your Viewing Distance

The secret to great computer glasses is all about the distance! Unlike your regular glasses, these are tuned to your intermediate vision, which is that specific space right between your reading range and your distance range. Because these are single vision lenses, the entire lens will be corrected for one specific focal point.

  • The Average Distance: For most desktop setups, the average viewing distance is approximately 20 to 26 inches (50 to 65 centimeters) from your eyes.

  • The "Arm's Length" Rule: A simple way to check your own setup is the arm's length test. If you sit back in your chair and extend your arm, your middle finger should just be able to touch the screen.

  • Laptops vs. Desktops: If you primarily use a laptop, your viewing distance may be slightly shorter (closer to 18-20 inches), whereas large dual-monitor setups might require a slightly longer focal length.

How to Order Computer Glasses

Once you have found a frame you love, follow these simple steps to order your custom single vision computer glasses.

  1. Select "Single Vision": This ensures the entire lens provides optimal clarity for your computer.

  2. Enter Your PD: Your pupillary distance (PD), the distance between your pupils, is essential for precise prescription lens alignment.

    • If you only have a standard distance PD, you can easily calculate your Intermediate PD with a quick bit of math:

      • Single PD: To get your near single PD, subtract 2. Example: Distance PD = 62mm, Near PD = 60mm.

      • Dual PD: You'll have two numbers, one for each eye (right eye first, left eye second). Subtract 1mm from each to get your intermediate dual PD. Example: Dual PD = 32/31mm, Near Dual PD = 31/30mm (right eye first, left eye second).

  3. Calculate Your Computer Strength: If your doctor didn’t provide a specific "Intermediate" or "Computer" prescription, don't worry! You can create your computer prescription using the ADD value found on your standard multifocal prescription:

    • Divide your ADD value by 2.

    • Add that number to your SPH value for both the Right (OD) and Left (OS) eyes.

    • Keep everything else the same. Your CYL and AXIS numbers do not change.

      • Example

        • Let’s say this is your standard prescription: SPH -3.00 CYL -0.50 AXIS 180 ADD 2.00

          • Divide the ADD by 2: +2.00 ÷ 2 = +1.00

          • Add that to your SPH: -3.00 + 1.00 = -2.00

          • The Result: Your new Computer SPH is -2.00. (The CYL and AXIS remain -0.50 x 180).

  4. Choose Your Lenses: Now for the fun part! We highly recommend adding Blokz® blue-light-blocking technology. These lenses help filter out the blue light emitted by digital screens.

  5. Review Your Order: Finalize your order by clicking “Add to Cart.” Double-check your numbers, head to checkout, and we’ll get to work! Your custom computer glasses will be on their way to you soon.
